School supplies distribution at the end of summer class |
Aware of the needs of the humanity, PWH, less than a year after its creation has carried out its first major project in Agou Akplolo, a remote village in the Kloto area.
Like many other villages in Togo, Agou Akplolo is confronted to many problems as: the lack of toilets, potable water, electricity and last but not least lack of education.
Children cannot complete even primary school because their parents do not have adequate resources to send and keep them in school. So these kids end up abandoning school and becoming farmers at a very young age. When boys who are favored to go to school cannot fullfill their dreams, what about girls who are not encouraged and whose schooling is still thought to be useless?
To change this mentality and motivate parents to send their kids to school, regardless of their sex, PWH has organized a summer camp on the benefits of education in Agou Akplolo. During 3 weeks, more than 200 students participated in this camp and they were under the care of seven teachers: Tse Afi Atsoufoe, Amegan Koffi Dotse, Tse Kossikouma, Appoh Kossivi, Gbedze Kofi Nenonene, Essenyaviade Komla Kpegbadza and Nyagbe Kodzo Neveame and two supervisors: Tsevi Yawo and Bagu Agbessi Christophe.
Parents, relatives and mostly teachers provided a tremendous effort to help teach new topics, and tutor these students. At the ending ceremony, they were very happy, and excited with the distribution of school supplies to all attendees. Joining PWH effort, the Women Solidarity Association of Togo in Chicago (WOSAT) also participate to this ceremony and gave each student one school bag. For the upcoming school year, parents can relax on school supplies needs and focus on other problems.
